Don’t forget about my expungement bill – it is mostly for petition-based expungement which allows a judge to exercise discretion unlike automatic expungement:
-
Obviously, I overlooked this one. But, in my defense, I thought the emphasis for Democrats was on automatic expungement.

Senator! — thanks for demonstrating that Bacon’s Rebellion DOES have some reach. 🙂 Dick – nice job, and nice way to make it a readable package. Except during my two years as a reporter, I went to lengths to avoid visiting the Courts committees or losing a bill into that swamp on either side. Here There Be Dragons.

I think yours is a better bill. I hope the house of delegates will get on board.

I noticed Cox’s bill on limiting emergency powers… did it get tabled?
-
Yes. Both Cox’s and Adams’ bills got tabled. Either LIS was not up to date when I checked or I neglected to check while I was preparing the post. Probably the latter.

Dick – Thanks. The focus for the HOUSE is automatic expungement. The Senate has made clear we don’t support that policy – at least for any crimes above a Class 3 misdemeanor. 41 states allow petition-based sealing of misdemeanors, 36 allow it for felonies. 2 state have implemented automatic expungement of misdemeanors. 2 are in the process of trying to implement it. 1 state has authorized automatic expungement of some felonies (Michigan) and just passed it 2 months ago. They haven’t implemented it yet. It is extraordinarily complicated. Petition-based sealing/expungement is the first step.

It is a pleasure to learn from you.
