Time for a Break

The General Assembly is scheduled to wind up this week. Whether it does or not, as budget negotiations go down to the wire, is beyond my ability to foretell. Sadly, I won’t be around for the grand finale. I’ll be cruising through the tropics with the family.

Odds are, the Disney cruise ship will have wireless Internet access, in which case, I may find myself checking in from time to time. But if things are little slow on the Bacon’s Rebellion blog, it’s because I’m snorkling or drinking Margaritas. Here’s a toast to life beyond politics!

The Disney vessels are beautiful ships, built in the yards of an excellent Italian builder, Fincantieri. They have classic lines (although the mouse ears and stuff sort of mar the effect). You should have a wonderful trip.

I’m sure they are wonderful, and lots of people enjoy them, but I’d have to put them in the category of things people do that I can’t seem to understand.

I suppose it can’t be anymore akin to fantasyland than what is happening at the GA.

Between compact accomodations, stange illnesses, disappearing persons, and hijackings, I think I’d rather take my chances on a Bareboat. Nothing quite like being your own Captain.

It’s kind of like the difference between an auto and Metro. Make your own schedule, park where you like, meet the locals, buy fresh lobster from the guy who rows alongside. Of course you don’t have a roulette wheel on onboard surfing.

Have a great time. While you are there, check out the level of infrastructure, and compare the local costs to local incomes. I know that on St. Martin, the roads are like poorly maintained golf cart tracks, and the cars are about that size. Highly congested, even though there is no place to go. And, by the way, property taxes there are zero, zilch, none, and you can buy a three bedroom villa with a two bedroom guest cottage for $350,000.

Ray: we don’t know that Mr. Bacon isn’t bareboating the Disney vessel. He was somewhat sparing of details. I’m sure that he, like you, like to be in command. I imagine that at this point his family is running itself a bit ragged taking care of a 70,000 ton vessel. Getting in and out of the slip is probably an adventure.

Hah~! Your right, one shouldn’t attribute unknown motives.
