Tim Kaine, the Edmund Burke of Our Time

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

–Edmund Burke, British Statesman and Political Thinker

[Kaine]responded to a student’s question about corruption on Richmond City Council, on which he once served, by saying that it was chiefly caused by the refusal of people in the city’s big law firms and major companies to run for City Council.

  1. Edmund Burke also said…”He that wrestles with us strenghtens our nerves, and sharpens our skills. Our antagonist is our helper.”

I wait for Kilgore to accept Kaine’s request for debates and wait and wait and wait. Like waiting for a plane out of Casablanca. Why is this antagonist silent. He must be our helper.

I’m sure there will be Kaine and Kilgore debates when the electorate is paying attention, not now, when only bloggers are. Can you wait until after Labor Day?

Speaking of Burke, who did Kaine wrestle with on the Richmond City Council? What antagonist was his “helper” in fighting council corruption?

  3. Will,

Obviously it was Sa-ad El Amin…who obviously wrestled poor Tim to the mat so often, young Mr. Kaine left the squared circle to search for less challenging opponents.

  4. Kaine’s biggest failure as a leader was allowing himself to be pushed by the Richmond Renaissance and other “big boys” into supporting corporate tool Calvin Jamison’s innapropriate application for City Manager. This happened despite much grassroots, citzen opposition.
