Taking Care of the Old in Old Virginny

Yesterday’s Richmond Times-Dispatch carried a series of articles on the aging population of Virginia, including this alarm-sounding Betty Booker report.

Today’s Washington Post offers economics pundit Robert J. Samuelson’s takedown of the AARP approach to policies on aging.

If a party or candidate wants to get out ahead of the next great domestic challenge, it’s policy area just waiting for them, as is the ambush that will be launched by the AARP and their dedicated voters.

Does anyone have the numbers (with graphic better) nationally (or for Virginia) on the how big the population bulge is from my baby boomer generation and how much or little it changes as we die off? Like to see the population by annual ‘cohort’.

I doubt the numbers would include illegal aliens, but that is something else to factor in.

The movement of rich, Yankee retirees is part of the housing demand in Tidewater. For the most part we get the ‘best’ Yankees who leave high tax, big government, more socialism areas for God’s Country.
