Sanctuary Localities All Over Virginia

by Dick Hall-Sizemore

The Trump administration has announced a list of “sanctuary” cities and counties that it is targeting. The President has threatened to pull federal funding and file suits against those localities that don’t change their practices that the administration deems make it harder for it to carry out its agenda of deporting undocumented immigrants.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, “We are exposing these sanctuary politicians who harbor criminal illegal aliens and defy federal law,” said Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Numerous counties and cities in Virginia made the list. The list includes ones that would be expected, but it also includes localities that might be surprised that the administration thinks they are sanctuary localities.

The following Virginia jurisdictions are on the list. The ones that went for Trump in the 2024 election are marked with an asterisk:

Cities and Towns

  • Abingdon*
  • Alexandria
  • Charlottesville
  • Duffield*
  • Hampton
  • Lynchburg*
  • Manassas
  • Martinsville
  • Newport News
  • Portsmouth
  • Richmond
  • Tazewell*
  • Virginia Beach

Counties

  • Albemarle
  • Amherst*
  • Arlington
  • Augusta*
  • Brunswick
  • Charlotte*
  • Chesterfield
  • Dinwiddie
  • Fairfax
  • Gloucester*
  • Halifax*
  • Hanover
  • Henrico
  • Middlesex*
  • Prince William
  • Rappahannock*
  • Richmond*
  • Tazewell*
  • Warren*

Note: Abindgon, Duffield, and Tazewell are towns and the Va. Dept. of Elections does not break out vote totals by town. However, the counties in which those towns are located all voted overwhelmingly for Trump.

Who knew all those Trump-voting counties and cities were actually sanctuaries for immigrants? ICE is coming after you.
