  1. Never fear, Jim, the Northam administration is making heroic efforts to tackle the “root causes” of poor educational achievement by expunging systemic racism from the Richmond school system. Once all the racist White employees have been purged and a culturally sensitive curriculum established, we’ll see a huge turnaround.

See my note thanking Steve Haner above.

White supremacy runs deep in the RVA. Schools filled with anti-Vaxers and the police department full of Klansmen killing Black men unchecked in the streets.
Who would have thought Stoney would run such a place right under the Equity-sniffing noses of Dr Governor Woke and DJ AG Blackface.

Wow, all those anti-vax Republicans working for the Richmond City schools!? They are the only one’s passing on the shots, right? So Larry tells me.

I predicted months ago that despite the optimism, there would be huge pushback on going to full in-person classes this fall. Low vaccination rates among teachers will be among the complaints.

Frankly I wouldn’t trust the RPS data on its own staff, but it would be interesting to see what the state has and which systems have high or low acceptance of the shots. Given all the privacy concerns, how does anybody really know absent a mandate to produce the documentation? All the legal advice I have seen is there is no question employers can require the shots of employees and I suspect Education Week was FOS (full of….). Without any question whatsoever the Attorney General has advised on that question, although it might never be public.

That was my first thought as well.

    2. Or they Republicans or Trumpites? Or disbelieving anti-government white supremacists? Or as many Dems and MSDNC and CNN pundits have stated, ‘Ignorant country bumpkins’?

The state only has the reports of the divisions.

And you are correct on the legality of mandates in schools. I relied on Ed Week. I should have known better. I just replaced it with information from the NYT. A century-old Supreme Court decision appears to be the precedent. Thanks much.

Virginia and 132 school districts will still have to act.

This is fascinating. You, who have been so critical of the Governor, the GA, and the Board of Education, now want the state to have the ability to take over the operation of local schools!?! Be careful what you wish for!

      Please, Dick.

I have been very consistent on the issue of enforcing the constitutional requirement for quality education.

The Constitutional Amendment and enabling legislation should provide an enforcement mechanism for that existing requirement. Republicans passed such legislation once and the legislation was found unconstitutional absent an amendment.

And, read it again. My column above is still critical of the Governor, the GA and the BOE.

I get your point, but changes to the SOQ require legislative approval.

if Virginians are vacuous enough to elect a Governor and GA representatives who will vote for something like CRT be embedded in the SOQ, they deserve what they will get. There are enough Democrats in the GA who would vote against it that such a change would fail.

      The fight would be bloody.

Please note in the Richmond Schools reopening dashboard https://www.baconsrebellion.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Richmond-Dashboard-v.9drr_6-7-2021.xlsx that the system as of June 7 had barely begun facility upgrades; the acquisition of nursing, custodial and PPE supplies; the training of nurses; the implementation of safety protocols; or, the installation of air filtration units on its school buses. The good news: they have procured hand sanitizer.

It is distinctly possible that many teachers are avoiding vaccinations so they will have a reason not to return to the unruly and dangerous school environments that they left – not really because of COVID – and still get paid. Lots of โ€œreligiousโ€ and โ€œmedicalโ€ accommodations (teach from home) may be in the offing.

The superintendent of RPS wants to remove RPD school resource officers. If I taught in one of the South Richmond schools that have been using SROโ€™s, I would be alarmed.

The School Board has yet to rule on the superintendentโ€™s recommendation.

Watch the Richmond Police Department thank their SROs. https://youtu.be/WruRzpqjh-8
