Northern Virginia counties that let students use the opposite sex’s bathrooms and locker rooms can pay to pave their own streets. We won’t.

President Donald Trump’s administration should pull all Department of Transportation funding from counties and cities whose school boards continue to push far-left gender ideology. A good place to start would be in the heart of the swamp—the Washington, D.C. suburbs.
The school districts in Alexandria, Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudoun County continually defy the Department of Education’s order on required gender norms and policies. These leftist-controlled districts prioritize radical gender ideology over student safety and biological reality, allowing boys who identify as girls into female restrooms and locker rooms, and vice versa. This perversion not only endangers students but mocks commonsense protections under Title IX, which was meant to safeguard women’s spaces.
As a result, the Department of Education announced it will pull all federal funds from these school districts. This is a start, but it’s insufficient. Federal education funding makes up a tiny proportion of local school budgets, and certainly not enough to force compliance in wealthy areas like the D.C. suburbs. To truly force change, Trump must hit them where it hurts—their roads, bridges, and transit systems funded by the Department of Transportation.
Here’s what happens when leftist lunatics run school boards
The consequences of leftist gender policies are not hypothetical—they’re horrific and ongoing.
Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares’s investigation found Stone Bridge High School initially opened an investigation into three boys but reduced it to two when one of the students turned out to be Muslim. Upsetting a family of a minority religion who believes in biological normality would undoubtedly upset the careful alliance of disparate minorities that hold Democrats’ coalition together in places like Loudoun County.
In 2021, Loudoun County’s policy of allowing students who identify as female to use the girls’ restroom resulted in a sexual assault at Stone Bridge High School inside a girls’ restroom. Rather than admit the failure of its trans-inclusive policy, the district quietly transferred the student to another school where he promptly began sexually harassing girls there, leading in another assault.
This was a direct outcome of prioritizing ideology over safety. The grand jury later condemned the district’s handling, noting inadequate punishment and monitoring that allowed the predator to strike again.
Just this month, the madness continued at the same Stone Bridge High School.
Two boys received a 10-day suspension, with a sexual harassment mark branded on their permanent academic records, for objecting to a girl who identifies as a boy using their locker room. These boys were punished for voicing discomfort about sharing intimate spaces with someone of the opposite biological sex.
Interestingly, Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares’s investigation found Stone Bridge High School initially opened an investigation into three boys but reduced it to two when one of the students turned out to be Muslim. Upsetting a family of a minority religion who believes in biological normality would undoubtedly upset the careful alliance of disparate minorities that hold Democrats’ coalition together in places like Loudoun County.
Northern Virginia’s school districts must not be allowed to continually behave as if there is a trans-friendly administration in D.C. Extending its ideology of inclusion to the dangerous delusion that biology doesn’t matter results in false accusations to students who refuse to share intimate spaces with the opposite sex and real harm to students who fall victim to sexual predators.
Why pulling federal education funds is not enough
The Department of Education’s decision to cut funds is justified, but the federal slice of these districts’ budgets is too small to force meaningful change. All these school districts get over 95 percent of their funding from non-federal sources.
For instance, in Fairfax County, only 1.4 percent of its $3.7 billion budget comes from the federal government.
In Prince William County, it’s 2.7 percent of its $1.78 billion operating fund.
For Arlington, it’s about 2.7 percent of its $826 million all-funds budget.
Alexandria has the largest federal percentage, but it’s only around 4.5 percent of its operating budget.
Even Loudoun relies on federal dollars for less than two percent of its operations.
Although this represents tens of millions of dollars—$51 million in Fairfax alone—it’s a drop in the bucket for these affluent enclaves, who can afford to shrug off the loss. Additionally, these districts are run by activists who view gender policies as a hill to die on, no matter the cost to other people’s children. Losing federal education aid might sting, but it won’t coerce them into protecting students. To break their resolve, the Trump administration must sanction these counties the way the U.S. sanctions foreign countries that engage in human rights violations. Here’s where the Department of Transportation comes in.
It’s time to grind road and transit projects to a halt
Too many people irresponsibly live their lives apolitically. They ignore local elections, which allows only the most radicalized to elect local office holders. In blue bastions like Northern Virginia, this apathy hands school boards to extremists who deny basic biology. The only way to change school policies from the top down is to bring the hammer down on all the region’s residents, whether they voted for these board members or not. The most effective way to do this is to immediately withhold all federal Department of Transportation funds from counties nationwide that refuse to comply with the administration’s commonsense orders on gender normality in schools.
The Trump administration already set a precedent for this regarding counties and cities that became de facto sanctuary jurisdictions by refusing to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Unfortunately, an activist district judge struck that down earlier this summer. However, this judicial activism does not extend to all the Appeals Courts, and certainly not the conservative-dominated Supreme Court. Trump can revive and refine this approach for gender policy defiers.
The federal government is under no obligation to disburse infrastructure funds. By starving Northern Virginia of all federal transportation dollars, the region’s residents will feel the pinch of their schools’ perversion. Four projects in Fairfax County alone recently devoured over $360 million in transportation funding. This including road extensions, multimodal improvements, and new bridges. That’s money that could be spent improving transit and roads in counties run by commonsense leaders who don’t subject their students to humiliation, false accusations, and rape.
Removing Education Department funds and threats to close the department itself are noble pursuits. But they won’t stop the leftist madness coming out of affluent, ultra-leftist areas where local leaders deny biology. At a certain point, when local leaders go so far as to deny reality and endanger children, the majority must step in, using the federal government through raw democracy to straighten them out. In a densely populated area like Northern Virginia, grinding transportation to a halt will do the trick rather quickly. Let these counties pave their own roads until they protect their kids from leftist lunatics.
