Kilgore Ups the Ante on Illegal Immigration

This just came in from Kilgore campaign headquarters:

Ensuring Cooperation with the Federal Government on the Enforcement of Immigration Laws. As Governor, Jerry Kilgore will sign an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigrant and Customs Enforcement to designate 50 state troopers to be specially trained for the purpose of having expanded immigration enforcement capabilities to arrest undocumented individuals.

This directly addresses the issue raised in our previous blog post regarding the role of the Virginia State Police in enforcing federal immigration laws. Kilgore will pursue more aggressive state enforcement of the laws.

It’ll be interesting to see how Kaine and Potts respond. I sense that this issue could get some traction.

When Governor Kilgore takes office, I hope he considers Will Vehrs for Secretary of Immigration.

In that Survey USA poll posted yesterday Kilgore was leading among the self-identified Hispanic voters. In the same poll six weeks earlier those numbers was much better for Kaine. What changed in the meantime, what issue came up that might have gotten their attention? The small sample size of a subset like that makes it hard to argue conclusively, but perhaps the legal and voting-registered Hispanics are not with the illegals on this one. And its the voters who matter come Nov. 8.

Lots of republicans are deceiving themselves into believing that the hispanic community supports strong immigration laws.

Think again. Many of these people are decendants of illegals from generations ago.

Jerry Kilgore has a rock that keeps away illegal immigrants. When he’s in office, there won’t be many illegal immigrants, and he’ll say “See, my rock is working!”
