As one who was born in 1952, Ikeโ€™s first presidential year, I could not agree more!๐Ÿ‘

We need more Ward Cleavers, less pronoun discussions!๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. People born in the 50s absolutely did not have the fastest cars…

They did have huge engines though.

โ€œHand me that bucket. Iโ€™m gonna bore this sucker out until it fits as a piston.โ€

      1. Here are some stats. My 10 year old econobox has better performance stats than a 1950s American sports car:

        1955 Corvette
        0-60 time = 8.7 seconds
        Skid Pad (g) = 0.86
        Top Speed = 120 mph

        2012 Ford Focus
        0-60 time = 8.0 seconds
        Skid Pad (g) = 0.86
        Top Speed = 138 mph

        And then,

        2022 Corvette (base model)
        0-60 time = 3.8 seconds
        Skid Pad (g) = 1.14
        Top Speed = 184 mph

So much for the fastest cars…

RE: 2012 Focus – I can vouch for the top speed and I’ve actually done slightly better than 8.0 seconds o-60 (more like 7.5). I’ve never had it on a skid pad, but it handles surprisingly well for an economy car and the suspension is pretty well sorted.

Now, itโ€™s totally unfair, but compare the newest Vette with, oh, any performance E-car. Just canโ€™t beat that torque curve.

By the way, when meeting a woman for the first time, a gentleman should always say he drives a Vette. Let her find out later itโ€™s a Chev, not a Cor.

          1. From zero to anything less than about 125 mph, the performance e-car has an advantage over the IC Corvette. Several also have a higher top speed.

From the standpoints of handling and braking, though, the e-car loses out to the Corvette. Also, e-cars all sound as if they have no soul – which is not the case with a V-8 IC.

NOTE: I am assuming the e-car is something that is as readily obtainable as a Corvette, not one of the “super-e-cars” like a Rimac Nevera, Lotus Evija, or Aspark Owl, either of which will run you about $3 Million.
