“I’m the Good Looking One”

I’ve plugged one of Tim Kaine’s ads and one of Russ Potts’ ads. Now I’ve finally come across a Jerry Kilgore ad that I really like. Just call me a sucker for anything that makes me laugh.

If you’ve ever wondered what Jerry’s twin brother Terry looks like, you’ll see him here. Terry’s a dead ringer for his brother. Even sounds just like him. If they sent Terry out on the campaign trail, no one could even tell the difference. Just think of it: Two Jerry Kilgores could attend twice as many events, shake twice as many hands and kiss twice as many babies. Tim Kaine wouldn’t stand a chance. View ad here.

Hadn’t you met Terry? Until Jerry got rid of the moustache, I was never sure which was which from more than three feet away, although you can see the difference when they are side by side. It is humorous and tactically looks to me like something to bolster the positive side of the electoral equation and deal with the issue you raised in your previous post.

I saw this ad for the first time this morning during The Today Show as I ate my cornflakes. Definitely a winner.

“Just think of it: Two Jerry Kilgores could attend twice as many events, shake twice as many hands and kiss twice as many babies.”

Two times the amount of what Kilgore does in this area is still less than most politicians. Jerry Kilgore goes to plenty of events, but he shakes few hands there and kisses few babies.

This ad opens a big door for Kaine to point out that Terry stood with him and Mark Warner, while Jerry pouted and fumed (even, of course, while planning on how to spend the new revenue himself). How is he going to explain how Tim and Warner are terrible people without at the same time insulting his own twin brother’s judgement?

Anon 5:06. I just double checked the roll calls and as I recalled, Terry Kilgore was NOT one of the delegates who supported the 2004 tax increase (HB 5018) or the companion bill freezing the car tax roll-back (SB 5005) at the special session. So what do you mean by “Terry stood with (Kaine) and Mark Warner…”?

A great many people remember that Terry got snookered by PETA last session and introduced a bill (HR2927)to spay and neuter every puppy and kitten in Virginia. How’s that for getting government out your life? This ad reminds those who might have forgotton.

  8. Are you kidding me? You guys like that ad? I kept expecting Cooter to pull up w/ the General Lee again. And Terry might as well said “I’m the one with the mullet.” As a pro business Republican and lukewarm supporter of his, I honestly believe Kilgore just lost Northern VA with that one. What a freaking goober.

I love that they let Terry talk in the ads but not Jerry.

Give it a rest. NoVA doesn’t care, and has never cared, that much about accents. The whole accent-gate thing was about his shrill girly voice, it’s just that no one on either side would come out and say it. Even in this ad, the touchy issue is not that the “I heard that!” is southern. It’s that its metrosexual. And the laugh at the end in the darkness is just plain creepy: that’s where the ad falls off. Kilgore is not helping with the profiles in which he discusses his love of disco (not a joke). The whole country boy thing is an attempt to recast him, not play up hsi authenticity. He’s been an urbanite buerrecrate most of his life, not a farmer.

They should have run Terry…He’s the smarter one who can communicate and he’s the one who stayed with the “homefolks.”

Jerry moved to exurbia, started running with the “in crowd”, hired consultants and bought an orange shirt. He’s “gotten above his raisin” and it shows. They should shoot the consultants.

I’m sorry, but I can’t hold off saying it anymore… I think Jerry Kilgore looks like a used-car salesman.

    Whew! I feel better now.

Kaine wouldn’t stand a chance if there were two Kilgores?

The citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia wouldn’t stand a chance.

I swear I still can’t readily keep our two candidates straight—I always think “Tim Kilgore” and “Jerry Kaine.” Now there’s a Terry that I have to worry about?????
