Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth, the president pro tempore of the state Senate, goes on to tweet:
Recently Fairfax commissioned a study with the Weldon Cooper Center at UVA claiming they only get 50 cents back on each tax dollar raised by the Commonwealth. This is false- and is a number derived by only counting money we send the county directly- not services used by all.
For example they don’t count money spent supporting the Fairfax County Sheriff, Clerk of Court or Commonwealths Attorney. They don’t count the billions spent in support of our colleges and universities that have more students from Fairfax County than anywhere else in Virginia.
What an irony that Fairfax has the money to pay UVA to do a “study” like this- and the Weldon Cooper Center forgot to include themselves in the analysis! Are we not supporting Fairfax County residents by subsidizing their students to attend UVA and other colleges?
I will have more to say on this later- but the days of Fairfax County taking advantage of my constituents is over. We will not be bullied or lied to by the richest community in the Commonwealth that is constantly begging us for more funding.
