    (Bite my lip) Nice, Captain.

Given you were able to compile these spreadsheets, I assume the raw data is available through State webpages someplace. Obviously, this is not from the aforementioned “free ad” page.

Mostly from https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/ Not nearly all of it, but I think I footnoted the rest. Just a snapshot, but shows how much the government knows about nursing homes. I just wish they would take action where indicated.

Sometimes they can. Like to think they always can. Sometimes they can’t. Hell, the POTUS can fire the AG, but apparently can’t touch the Postmaster General, so CMS swooping in to clean up a nursing home probably requires a lot of hoops.

Like you’ve said. That’s a snapshot. You’ll have to watch that over time for change and it’s tough to know what’s going on between the last inspections and reports. Chronic violations and poor performance is what you want to know when the time comes.

Perhaps the worst part of it all is that if and when a need arises, where you wind up depends on space available. Sister-in-Law had a stroke and each move from ER to ICU to Nursing Home to Rehab involved a flurry of phone calls and schedule bargaining and temporary moves. And she has a really good insurance policy.

But, nice job putting that together.

The star rankings actually do reflect performance over the medium term – roughly three years, sometimes more.

3 years in a ’nuff to do it. Last time I checked, 2010 when dealing with the moms, the average man doesn’t make one year, and the average woman doesn’t make four.

Thank you. I will add one thing.

The Virginia Department of Health is the nursing home licensing authority.

Code of Virginia § 32.1-135. Revocation or suspension of license or certification; restriction or prohibition of new admissions to nursing home.
          A. In accordance with applicable regulations of the Board, the Commissioner (i) may restrict or prohibit new admissions to any nursing home or certified nursing facility, or (ii) may petition the court to impose a civil penalty against any nursing home or certified nursing facility or to appoint a receiver for such nursing home or certified nursing facility, or both, or (iii) may revoke the certification or may revoke or suspend the license of a hospital or nursing home or the certification of any certified nursing facility for violation of any provision of this article or Article 2 (§ 32.1-138 et seq.) of this chapter.

He does not need federal government to do anything. He just does not do his job. Look again at the record of Envoy of Williamsburg and others cited for patient abuse.

Abuse is something really different. That should earn somebody time in the Graybar, not just licensing problems.

BTW, 2 points. 1) I went to the medicare site. You sir, are a veritable Andy Dufresne when it comes to crawling through the pipe, and 2) you assembled that quickly.
