The rumbling sounds like rocks sliding down a hill high above them continued for what was surely hours. They huddled close; their eyes transfix on the small yellow bird in its wire cage. This would be their only warning — a signal of a sure and painful end at hand. Concern, then dread, took hold as the small creature’s head slowly fell and snapped up several times. It’s eyelids began to droop as it rocked wobbly on its perch. One last time the head dropped, and this time the bird fell forward, landing on its back writhing in a last attempt to right.
“COURT IS ADJOURNED!”
