There You Go Again, Jerry, Making Stuff Up

The Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial page today reminds us of the circumstances in which Gov. Tim Kaine told voters he would not raise taxes:

Resurrected Quote of the Day: Tim Kaine, in response to Jerry Kilgore’s statement that “he’s going to raise your taxes if he’s elected Governor”: “There you go again, Jerry, making stuff up. You’re not fit to be Governor if you make stuff up on this stage.”

This is silly. The election is over. All Jerry Kilgore had to do in this red state was run a positive campaign with an uplifting message and he’d be Governor. The tone of his campaign cost him more than did the substance of Kaine’s.

Kingish, The post isn’t about Jerry Kilgore. It’s about Tim Kaine.

  4. Jim- I doubt that Tim Kaine WANTS to raise taxes. I believe he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He can wait to do something positive on transportation until the General Assembly gives him his constitutional amendment for his lockbox ( his preference) and allow the transportation problem to grow worse, or he can act in good faith and personally assure that the transpotation funds are not raided while waiting for the constitution to be amended ( he is the Governor after all). Tim Kaine wasn’t elected Governor to hold the line on taxes, he was elected Governor to do something about transportation. Most Virginians will judge him on his approach to that issue, not on whether their gas tax is increased. I know because that’s why I voted for him . Those who gripe about this hard choice likely aren’t “betrayed” by Tim becuase they didn’t vote for him in the first place.

Forgiveness is easier to get than permission. Ask Mark Warner.

Tim Kaine said we were going to live within our means. One way to do that is ask for a raise.

Asking for a raise is the only way for goverment… after all… every govermental function is ABSOLUTELY vital and children will strave if we cut back

You won’t get any argument out of me: I agree. All I’m saying is that there is more than one way to look at things.

See Jaded JD, on how much we are paying for government, relatively speaking.

Can we do better? Absolutely. Is there a fixed, dogmatic way to do better. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

K – I’m sorry, but Kaine loves to raise taxes – it’s his thing – just look at his record
