Pedophiles Ought to be Stigmatized

by Kerry Dougherty

Stop it. Just stop. We’ve had enough.

At least I’VE had enough and I think I speak for many Americans who are done with woke. Done with the left. Done normalizing things that are anything but normal.

Late on Thursday night, as I was putting the finishing touches on Friday’s post, I got a text from a friend, “You’re prob aware of this – I just saw it,” with a link to this:

I was stunned. It took a little work to figure out what sort of madness I was watching.

Turns out, this is an interview with Allyn Walker, a PhD and self-described “Queer criminologist & abolitionist,” whose pronouns are “they/them.” Walker is an assistant professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University.

What you’re looking at in that cheerful little interview is Walker promoting they/them’s book: “A Long, Dark Shadow: Minor-Attracted People and Their Pursuit of Dignity.”

In case you don’t know what a minor-attracted person is — Walker affectionately refers to them as MAPs — that’s a freak who’s sexually attracted to children.

In other words, a pedophile.

Oh wait. Walker doesn’t like the “P” word because it’s “stigmatizing.” It interferes with the quest for dignity by people who lust after kids.

“I think it’s important to use the terminology for groups that members of that group want others to use for them,” Walker explains in the interview.

Sure, and members of MS-13 prefer to be called members of a “social club” rather than members of the world’s most brutal street gang.

That doesn’t make it true.

I don’t know how much of this interview most people can stomach, but in it, Walker seems to be drawing a distinction between run-of-the mill perverts and perverts who have “not offended.” Walker insists there is “no morality” attached to a desire for children as long as the pedophile doesn’t act on it.

Sorry, Professor. Some of us believe in right and wrong and sexual attraction to children is wrong. It’s a dangerous mental illness that harms the most vulnerable among us. Society should not be pressured into accepting people who are aroused by children. We needn’t dignify their abhorrent desires.

Rather than argue about whether pedophilia is just one more wrinkle in human sexuality – perfectly fine as long as no one rapes a baby – let’s call it what it is: A perversion.

Nevertheless, Walker wants normal people to accept “non-offending” pedophiles.

That’s a hard no.

Walker’s premise is just a ghoulish extension of the other absurdities we’re being pressured to accept: Allowing biological boys to compete against girls in sports, as long as they “identify” as being female, for instance. And government agencies abolishing the word “women” and substituting idiotic terms like “pregnant people” in documents, lest woke members of “the party of science” be offended by telling the truth: that only women can have babies.

Enough already.

I hesitate to point this out to Walker, but all “offending pedophiles” started out as non-offending ones.

Those who would rob children of their innocence for sexual satisfaction are the lowest form of humanity. They’re the reason an estimated 10,000 children a year are trafficked in the U.S.

Society shouldn’t tolerate pedophiles. Whether or not they’ve yet acted on their impulses.

All of this raises one big question: What the hell is going on at ODU?

Over the weekend, the university reacted with a tepid, meaningless word salad:

An academic community plays a valuable role in the quest for knowledge. A vital part of this is being willing to consider scientific and other empirical data that may involve controversial issues and perspectives. Following a recent interview that gained national attention, Dr. Allyn Walker has released the following statement.

“I want to be clear: child sexual abuse is an inexcusable crime. As an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, the goal of my research is to prevent crime. My work is informed by my past experience and advocacy as a social worker counseling victims. I embarked on this research in hopes of gaining understanding of a group that, previously, has not been studied in order to identify ways to protect children.”

Following recent social media activity and direct outreach to the institution, it is important to share that Old Dominion, as a caring and inclusive community, does not endorse or promote crimes against children or any form of criminal activity.

Oh really? Well, pushing for the acceptance of pedophilia by a representative of the school is a first step.
