Recently,
faux ‘independent’ but decidedly Democrat
Randy Gilliland made spurious accusations at a
citizens’ debate. The Daily Press
dutifully printed them as facts. When
faced with the truth, the newspaper's
retraction was weaker than warranted.
The voters need more truth, less lies in
politics.
So,
here are 10 questions for Poquoson and York
voters to ask Democrat Randy Gilliland in his
big money bid to buy the 91st House of
Delegates seat. I’m sure my neighbors
will use this as just a starting point.
1.
Why are you running as an Independent instead
of a Democrat? You’ve always run as a
Democrat in Hampton. Democrat Gov. Mark “I
promise I won’t raise your taxes” Warner
went to your fund raiser. All the usual
Democrats, including Poquoson’s City Council
Democrats, support you. Are you ashamed of
being a Democrat? Or, just trying to fool the
voters? Isn’t honesty in Party
affiliation an integrity issue?
2.
Which taxes will you raise? You supported the
largest tax increase ($1.4b) in Virginia
history. Virginia’s spending went from
$51b (2004) to $62b (2006) - a 22 percent
increase, and still there is a $1b surplus!
Every pay increase for teachers, deputies, EMS
– all Virginia employees could have been
paid for by the 11 percent growth in revenue
WITHOUT raising a penny more in taxes. How
many voters got a 22 percent pay raise? Why do
you still support the Car Tax? Property taxes
in Hampton increased significantly. How much
more do you demand from The People in taxes?
3.
Why do you still support the Transportation
Tax Referendum Scam of ’02? Three out of
four citizens in the 91st HD voted against the
gutless referendum, wrong plan, and wrong tax.
Was it the guaranteed gridlock plan to pour
concrete to go from 571 congested miles in
Hampton Roads to 670 congested miles 20 years
later? Was it the regressive sales tax to
punish the poor and seniors on fixed incomes?
Or, was it the unelected regional government
with no oversight spending $18 billion on
their buddies? Did you learn in Hampton
politics from Hunter Andrews or Jimmy Eason
how to spend money on wasteful projects to
make powerful people richer?
4.
Why are the same fat cats supporting you? How
much money have special interests, who make
their money from tax and spend power politics
in Richmond, given you? Is there anyone among
your supporters who didn’t support the ’02
Tax Scam or elected Democrat Molly Ward’s
husband buying an extra house in the 91st HD
in ‘03 to attack Republican Tom Gear, and
’04 Tax Increase? What have you been
promised?
5.
Why did the Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney
appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate
you? Will you help the Special Prosecutor
resolve the issue to vindicate you or indict
you for a felony before the November election?
Does this make you feel closer to fellow
Democrat Clinton – who you supported in
every election?
6.
Does your child still go to private school?
Aren’t the Hampton public schools good
enough for your kid? Or, are Public Schools
just for other folks’ kids? You say you
support public education but never invested
your child for one day of it.
7. Why do you
attack Del. Gear for being pro-life?
8.
Wasn’t it an arrogant abuse of power to fire
the Hampton City Manager? George Wallace had a
couple of months to go on his contract. He
could have been terminated with dignity. But,
you voted to abruptly fire him and put the
taxpayers in jeopardy of losing a huge court
settlement. Isn’t this why no black citizen
in Hampton is supporting you?
9.
Who are the Republicans who support you?
Former-Republican, now Independent, Russell
Potts can name his Republican supporters. Name
names – especially the ones who whispered
with a wink and nudge-nudge. Or, is the truth
that you’re just another Liberal Democrat
with no Republican, Libertarian or
Conservative supporters?
10.
Do you support Republican Del. Tom Gear’s
bill to prohibit illegal immigrants from
attending Virginia’s colleges and
universities? If not, what part of
‘illegal’ do you not understand? What
legislation to stop and deport illegal
immigrants do you support? Randy Gilliland
should answer these questions, and many more,
as honestly as he can.
